Finished!

Everyone else is doing it, so yeah...

-I knew Dumbledore's death was coming, since I had been spoiled, but it was still sad. Yet, I have a feeling it might be an Obi-Wan type thing, with Dumbledore still having some parts to play.
-The Tom Riddle parts were some of the best in the book. I really looked forward to reading those. They were good character development...unlike the events related to Lupin/Tonks. I wish she had developed it more. Other characters were also suffered from 2d-syndrome; Draco for example.
-Using the Half-Blood prince notebook as a plot device was genius.
-Elements of LOTR in the caves with Dumbledore using fire and a "dead marshes"-like atmosphere.
-Lovely mythology allusions with Fenrir and the Latin derived vampire name- Sanguini.
-Some of the most annoying female characters I've ever encountered in the persons of Fleur and Lavender. Plus there is Harry's inner growling beast thing, which made me nauseous.
-Good funny parts, it was actually less dark than I expected.

Yeah...overall I enjoyed it, Harry was more likable than in the last book and there were some really good plot devices, even though some of them were potential plot holes.

Lupin/Tonks just came out of nowhere! Although, since most of what we get is Harry's perspective, it's understandable. I'm happy for them, though.

Fleur's annoying, yes, but the way she laid down the law in the hospital wing, well she's got more spunk than I credited her for. I just hope she really does stick with Bill.

16 year old girls tend to be annoying.

Lupin/Tonks was especially bad, but none of the romances had much power. Harry/Ginny was seriously underdeveloped. She needed at least a couple one-on-one scenes to show us *why* it was so important to him (English teachers say "show, not tell!"). Hermione/Ron only worked because there was so much goddamn lead-up in the rest of the series. I hope she goes somewhere with Harry/Ginny after all the obligatory stupid heroic Harry crap.

If Harry survives, I think Ginny will be there waiting for him to try and make a normal life for themselves.

But still, Ginny is a generally underdeveloped character. And fans have written better romances between them.

Also, I think having Harry be angsty and unlikeable in the last book was a stroke of brilliance on her part, as was making him an arrogant impatient teenager in this one. The problem with the movies is that they make him out to be too noble, which isn't true to Rowling's books.

Gah, Voldemort was brilliant in HBP. Just brilliant.

And Snape. Oh. Snape.

I was faintly annoyed by the LotR-esque quality of the caves, and the silver-white glowing outline of the door. But thats because I hold LotR above all else and it was as if she was mocking it. Which I know she wasn't... but hey, I'm protective and possesive and I can't help it.

Remus/Tonks very annoying. I shall refrain from ranting on this. Remus is one of the bestest ones ever, though.

The Death Eater moments were the best. I loved seeing more of Bella and 'Cissa than screeching, arrogant killers. I heart the Malfoys. They're like, a family. Malfoys in 3D!

In fact, though, the pairings in general were horrific. On that I definitely agree.

And again, I say Snape. I love him.

And the reference to Regulus at the end is very exciting! A bit of history, you know? Regulus A. Black. Wonder if his middle name is Arcturus.

Harry was irritating as usual... his ignorance and inability to think never ceases to amaze me. At least he listens to Hermione, on occasion, though he would do just as well to listen to some other characters.

Oh god. Severus. Just... Severus. I began to wail in despair at this part:
"DON'T-" screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman, as though he was in as much pain as the yelping, howling dog stuck in the burning house behind them, "-CALL ME COWARD!"

How could Harry be so heartless?
